DF Question of the Week: 11/25/09

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and what's a better way to give thanks than by giving you a brand new episode of Distributed Failure? I thought it was time that we asked another QotW for all our loyal fans and the question is this (a two-parter):

  • Part Un: Do you plan on braving the storm on Black Friday in search of some gaming steals?
  • Part Deux: If you've ever gone out of your way for a deal on Black Friday; What is the best deal you've ever gotten and did you have to punch a pregnant lady in order to get it?

Feel free to send in your answers by voice mail (707-520-4263), e-mail (distributedfailure@gmail.com), or by simply replying to this post. I look forward to hearing/reading your responses and I just want to wish everyone an early Happy Thanksgiving.

Much love,
Kush

Personally, I didn't even know what Black Friday was til about 7 yrs ago when I was working for Wal-Mart. After witnessing 4 yrs of upclose how f'ing insane people get about these sales, I never have tried to venture out for any of them if I happen to be off work. I am off this year but it would take an insanely great deal for me to risk being around all that madness. I have seen people steal stuff from other carts, shoving matches, bloodied noses, and more. I once was asked to guard a cart while the 0ustomer was in the dressing room, and another customer threatened me with a knuckle sandwich if I didn't let her look in the cart. No thanks but good luck to those of you who do.

I too have never ventured out on my own time to take advantage of Black Friday; it just seems like such a hassle that I don't want to deal with. In fact, I even have a formula that I've recently discovered. It goes like this: The more people there are in a given area, and the smaller that given area, the less considerate those people will be. Besides, online deals for Black Friday or Online Monday (or whatever it's called) are starting to get good. Also, check out this weeks Joystiq podcast for some shopping tips from CheapyD.

I don't really do any shopping for myself around this time. I skip these deals and karma makes up for later on with the holidays and after holidays :D

I will be getting a ton of guitar strings and some humbuckers from my work. And the DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome. But I get to take the pick in the morning before we open. Then I get to stay and deal with the people. Hopefully I won't run of my green sanity before the day is over.
