PSP #260: Thanksgiving / Black Friday / Getting a PlayStation 4...

On the Monday before Thanksgiving and a Friday colored in a very, very, very dark shade of gray--fifty layers may have been used to get said shade oh so [very dark] gray--Marc talks about what they're thankful for and what deals they have their eyes on--Until Dawn for $20 at Best Buy is awfully tempting. And then, when they have no more thanks to give and only something that rhymes with (mighty) "ducks" to give, they talk about what it's like playing around with a PlayStation 4 for the first time ('cause playing around with one at a Target kiosk two years ago doesn't count). Cheers, enjoy the show, stay safe on Black Friday, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Anyway, that's it and that's all, folks, and, if you're feeling extra generous, donate a little money or subscribe to show your support for the site and show(s); it's not free to host the site, the show, to make and record videos, and everything in between, so, anything would be greatly appreciated, even if you just tell a friend or two about the site and show(s). Y'all can also support the site by shopping at Amazon if that's what ya like.

Spring board game sale over at CoolStuffInc

I have mentioned CoolStuffInc here and there for a very specific reason; they're great and, if you don't have a local game shop you like (and/or want to save a bit of coin), I can't think of a better place to do all your board game shopping than CoolStuffInc; their prices are often, but not always, better than even Amazon's (and they have a great rewards program). Anyway, I'm not here to talk about CoolStuffInc in generalities, but to let y'all know about their Spring board game sale--which stated a few days ago and is still going strong; though, some games have already sold out--because there are some great deals to be found and, well, I just really like the site.

So, before I just link you to their sale, I'd like to throw out a few recommendations based on what I've heard and seen (I haven't played any of these unless otherwise noted). The first recommendation is going to be as obvious as the come, but Lewis & Clark has been receiving almost universal praise lately and, while I can't comment on the game, I can say, with authority, that the art, both on the cards and board, is absolutely beautiful. That said, Lewis & Clark is supposed to be a great deck-building/worker placement game and, what I love most of all is, it can be played alone if that's your thing--I'm a huge fan of any game with a soloable option.

Xbox LIVE 'Deal of the Week' for 05/06 - 05/12/14

This week's Xbox LIVE 'Deals with Gold' is an improvement over the last few week's worth of deals, but still doesn't come close to the deals found on PSN recently, especially those found in their flash sales. That said, the highlights this week are all on the XBLA side of the marketplace--I like Fable Anniversary, but I think it will be $19.99 sooner than later--and, of all the XBLA games on sale, I recommend Pool Nation most of all. Sure, Fez is probably the best game of the bunch, but people already know all about Fez, while Pool Nation--which is a very good pool game--will likely be overlooked when it shouldn't be; unless you absolutely hate pool, buy Pool Nation while it's only $1.99. (And if you're into Killer Instinct, the Combo Breaker Pack is 25% off.)

Xbox LIVE 'Games with Gold' free game for 05/01 - 05/15/14: Dust: An Elysian Tail

The newest free game as part of Xbox LIVE's 'Games with Gold' promotion, Dust: An Elysian Tail, is one of the best freebies to date and one of the best XBLA games of all time. If you don't remember Dust: AET, well, it's a game mostly crafted by one person, Dean Dodrill, and originally an Xbox LIVE Indie Game, created with the now-dead XNA Game Studio; however, after winning Dream.Build.Play 2009, the game received a contract that would get it published on Xbox LIVE Arcade and the rest is history. (When looking at the XBLIG marketplace, especially now, it's hard to imagine Dust: AET was, at one point, just another XBLIG.)

As far as the game goes, Dust: AET is an absolutely gorgeous metroidvania-esque game with fantastic gameplay and a surprisingly great story that is rather adult and filled with great voice acting throughout. I remember, when the game first came out, a lot of people were giving it the cold shoulder because it's a "furry" game; if you don't play Dust: AET because it's populated by furries and not humans, well, I just feel sorry for you; actually, I feel nothing for you because only you are preventing yourself from enjoying one of the best games of the last few years for an incredibly stupid reason. Quick question: do you like Disney's Robin Hood? (Of course you do!) Well, um, that's a furry movie (as are many Disney movies if you think about it)!

Xbox LIVE 'Deal of the Week' for 04/29 - 05/05/14

This week's Xbox LIVE 'Deals with Gold' includes a little bit of LEGO and Star Wars, with a smidgen of LEGO Star Wars to make it all come together; and, if you're into music or dance games, Just Dance 2014 and Rocksmith 2014 Edition are both having small sales for all members, not just Gold members. Anyway, there's nothing too exciting this week, but, if you haven't played any of the LEGO games on sale, they're all worth checking out, especially The Complete Saga; and, while they're not great, both The Force Unleashed games are dumb fun--using the Force to fling storm troopers and ewoks never gets old.
