Review: Puzzwords (XBL Indies)

Puzzwords is a puzzle game with words. Could I be any more obvious? Probably not, but I am just trying to be loquacious and pass the time. Getting to the point, Puzzwords is essentially Columns meets Scrabble. Blocks of three letters drop from the top [intentionally embarrassing rhyme] and you can flip or rotate said blocks to create words of three to five letters. Puzzwords delivers an enjoyable experience with plenty of modes to satisfy all tastes.
A lot of XBL Indies are usually lacking content, but Puzzwords happens to be overflowing. The game features four different single-player modes: Arcade, Timed, Marathon, and CPU Race; as well as versus multiplayer for both online and offline play, though it will be 100% impossible to find a random player online. Puzzwords even features fully functional online leaderboards that cover weekly, monthly, and all time high scores.
Word junkies and puzzle fans will find a lot to like in Puzzwords and receiving definitions for words adds an optional educational reward. My only complaint is that I did run across the occasional word that wasn’t featured in Puzzwords’ dictionary, but those moments were infrequent and never took away from the experience. Puzzwords in a great game and an absolute steal for the price of 80 MS points [$1.00].
